Pilegrimssenter Røldal - Norway

Pilegrimssenter Røldal
The pilgrim makes a pilgrimage, towards a way, to the light. This path is through the mountains.
The center of pilgrimage needs so pure and pious ways, as is assumed here in the project.
The design of the body at the base, keeps the floating mountains, and lights the pilgrim route day and night.
A path connects the existing church to the center of pilgrimage, from door to door, entry to entry, so that the pilgrims have doors waiting for them.
Upon arriving at the reception, its moment of pause with lockers and space to pack their things. At this point, the pilgrim feels that the road has continuity. This path leads you to the exhibition space and the center of the building.
Even at the time of break and socializing, the pilgrims have "Pilegrim Kafé" a large, open space connected to the library and outdoor terrace. In the upper floor, there’s a screening room, andan exhibition area.
Behind the reception, there are several administrative and core areas of operation of the building with direct links to the services required of the program, but with a placeholder link to the outside.
This pilgrimage center intends to fully play the role of religious and social, with the various aspects.
This new building will enhance their facilities inorder to host a greater number of pilgrims, exhibitions, as well as define anappropriate space for their own religious activities.
The new construction intends respect the place whereit stands, without loosing own up to date architecture expression. It intendsalso to be in harmony with the landscape. It is an integrated body taking aclever advantage of the use of wood as structural material as well as, as amain façade material (similar to the existing church).
The site is understood as a green plateau where thechurch figure stands imposingly along a landscape axis, with a gentle slope. The strategy consists in placing the building out of the zone, filling an openterrain, integrating the surroundings.
The new premises are located in parallel to theaccess, church and road axis, on the west side of the church. It uses theparameters of topography and distance to accommodate the program. In this sensethe existing church keeps being the dominant built structure of the area. Thelocation of the entrance reinforces the existing spacious access yard as accessplace of the whole intervention.
The outside spatial quality is brought inside the newbuilding.
The simple horizontal body of the extension buildinggathers all main areas in one great plateau.
