The study area is located in the southern coast of Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, Greece, and is one of the main points of interest in Mikra as it brings together many local uses as well as supralocal. Having assumed the importance it would give the region if new useswere added, we attempt to connect the terminal to the metro and suburban sea transportation, ie with high speed craft through which passengers will go to Perea, N. Epivates, and Michaniona.
The proposal also includes the redesign of the waterfront and the design of the marina berthing of vessels.Today, as cities seek outlets through intensive use of the urban fabric, and given the eclipse of landscape in it, water is a precious deposit, a benchmark that can be a collective social space of high quality. The enhanced position of the liquid component allows the installation of forms and functions that would be difficult to find elsewhere so full social consensus.The design of the region of Mikra has to interact with the water element, namely the most unstable form of nature.
The redesign of the region is based on new data generated by the development program and the new requirements and needs of the region and seeks to establish the continuity and connection of open public space and the built environment. Key features of the landscape that affect the design choices is the way to the limit over land and sea, the open and uninterrupted field of vision, a sense of infinity due to the strong presence of water and the skyline in the sea.
Thus, the creation of a contiguous area with entertainment, games, relaxation, education and culture, a sequence of differentiated spaces of varying grades covering a wide range of moods, but will retain the elements of unity and continuity are key design goals. One of the main aims of the redesign of the site is to provide residents, visitors and passers-by an interesting set of parks, trails and activities and to make traveling easier and faster. Thus, aiming at transforming the region into a core and supra-local importance, we formed parks and open spaces with a variety of activities that attract people of all ages, from playgrounds and facilities for skate-board up to open spaces for concerts and small theatrical performances.
