Romeo & Juliet: Poster Design
The designs below were created as for a class assignment creating and recreating promotional posters for simulated event; Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing.
Four Poster Compilation with Sketches:
For the designs above, we were asked to accurately recreate the work of another designer while also using the content of the play to create the sketches at the top of the page that would later inform our own poster designs.
Kiss Poster with Sketch:
This show the development of my own original poster to the final version. For the sketch I wanted to give the sense that the kiss, a prominent feature of the play, was not just a kiss but a meeting of 2 hearts. The image features two hearts connecting in a kiss.
Kiss Poster: Final
Throughout the design process I was unable to create a design that was able to communicate that these were both lips and hearts. This realization lead to a design shift to representing the silhouettes of the two lover. The space between the two figures, where the ampersand is located is representative of an abstract heart and the love between these two characters.
"Much Ado About Nothing" Poster: #1:
For the next portion of this project we were required to create designs for a different Shakespeare play that required that the posters only use black and white with very specific information that needed to be communicated about the play on a single page poster. For the design above I wanted to simplify the design and create a poster that was simultaneously delicate and bold.
"Much Ado About Nothing" Poster: #2:
For this poster I again chose to go for a simple design that allowed for the information of the play to be the main focus while the imagery provides you with the underlying contextual information about the play itself.
"Much Ado About Nothing" Poster: #3:
For this final design I wanted to make use of the white space and communicate the information at the same time. the intention of this design was that the imagery on the page would draw the reader in for a closer look at the text. The text layout being selected to provide the information without overwhelming the viewer with the volume of information. The scale of the individual elements provides a hierarchy to the image and allows it to communicate the most pertinent information to the viewer first.
