Flashback (Rap Beat)

This music track was created for a rap artist that wanted a music track tailored to what he wanted to rap to. As an old friend I decided to help him out and started to take some inspiration. What I was listening to mostly for some inspiration was Straight Outta Compton, by NWA. This made me want to introduce the high hats throughout the song. It was an idea of the artists to have them taken out for some beats. The types of sounds that I used were to emulate the 80's style of rap music which was mostly 808 drum kits which gave the track that pop feeling but with the arrangements of a rap song.
I decided to keep the melody for the track simple with no complicated synth solos. This was so the rappers voice was easily able to fit over the track without any interruption from the mass of music going on. I had the bass track follow the same melody as the lead synth so there would be nothing standing out. This was also for the ease of the artist to be able to easily rap over the track. The synth and bass for the track were both made in a virtual instrument called Serum by Xfer Records. This was in combination with multiple built in Pro Tools effects such as a flanger, reverb, EQ, compression, distortion and a delay to make the sounds what they are. The layout of the track is simple however when I was creating the track I was also hoping this would be as good without vocals as it would be with vocals. so I took consideration for listening values and made sure the beat was steady enough to have the dancing beat to it so it is easily enjoyable by most people.
