Graduation project ('ik')

Since 2014 I've kept a video diary in which I've talked about events, meetings, frustrations and other personal thoughts. In my graduation project 'ik' (translated 'I'), I typed out all the text and gathered all kinds of data from one year of recordings. This data included date, location, time, duration, amount of words and amount of letters. I also counted the amount of times I said 'ik', which was 2335 times.
To visualize this data I deconstructed the text into single characters. With these characters as basis, I've built up new forms to organize and give structure to all the chaotic events. My graduation project consists out of 3 visualizations.

book OF characters
In this book I organized all the characters of one year (120266 characters) of speaking out in front of my camera. These characters are sorted alphabetically. After each amount of characters of one single letter, I refer to the date when the footage was recorded.
serial of posters
In this serial of 26 posters I organized the entire story of 2014 into alphabetical ordered sheets. There's a poster for each letter in the alphabet. Each poster contains the same entire story of 2014, but only one letter is visible. Despite the fact that each character has the same position on the posters, each single poster contains a different structure and saturation. This because – for example – the letter 'e' was used way more times (21918 times) than the letter 'x' (14 times).
serial of prints
The serial of prints consist out of 37 prints, each representing one day of footage (in which I've spoken). In each print I created structure by ordening all the characters alphabetically into a border. Because the amount of letters used that day, as well as the different words, each print has it's own unique pattern.
