Easter Giftware (M&S)
Gifting and packaging concepts to enhance Spring special occasions
With Marks and Spencer as the hypothetically intended retailer in mind, my task was to develop new products or packaging that could enhance consumers' gifting experience during Spring special occasions.
Concept 1: Animal - themed boxes
I developed these boxes whilst experimenting with creating the rabbit shape and trying to make paper chains. The final result is a series of boxes that can be used to give small gifts and trinkets.
With Easter as the initial holiday in mind I thought they could be used for giving chocolate, and the final box shows how the packaging develops for larger chocolates and products. Instead of tying the box with ribbon, I decided that the box needed a more secure closing method and so utilised the ears and cut holes for the other ears to go through.
Wanting my packaging to have a sense of luxury, I chose to produce them out of brightly coloured metallic cards and teamed the silhouettes with ribbon. I wanted the recipient to feel a sense of specialness upon opening the box, and so using ribbon gave it a personal touch and allowed them to interact with and be excited about opening it. I chose colours that feel fresh and linked with Easter and the SS13 trends, and by using metallic card the boxes have a sense of vibrancy. For perhaps more secure and subtler closing the ribbons could be exchanged for velcro. This would simplify the appearance of the boxes yet wouldn't ditract from their luxury and creativity. This is because the colours and forms communicate this and give them a strong shelf presence and sense of fun and individuality.
To extend this concept further I would have created other animals for the Easter range, such as chicks and lambs. With the idea of giving personal little gifts this concept could also work  for Valentine's day and Mother's day.
