Handmade book inspired by Japanese prints
The aesthetic of this book was based primarily on Japanese prints. My goal was to take inspiration from these methods of printmaking and illustration, and provide a slightly more organic feel as the end result. Materials used included hand treated rice paper, soaked in an ink wash and later distressed. Next the drawings were completed, including handwritten text centered on the characteristics of the species. Paper was then adhered to re-upholstered antique book covers. I was pleased with the end result, but in hindsight, thicker paper would have made a better choice considering the book was meant to stand up on its own.
