I am Teesside
One Language, Many Voices
This project was based upon my home town and the dialect that is used in that specific area of the North-East of England. Teesside, although not the official term for the geographical area, is still used by locals and visitors in reference to the area and is the idea that I based my project around. The term is used by its residents and I believed it to be the one defining thing all Teessiders have in common.

Teesside has one of the highest unemployment rates in England, alongside having the arguably the largest amount of empty commercial shop space in the country. I wanted to use these empty spaces as a tool to create a sense of regional pride by getting participants to proclaim I Am Teesside! as well as having their portraits taken, printed and placed in the booklet. The idea was that these photos could then be used on large screens, projects or posters around the area to unify residents and create local pride.
