The concept for Gasworks Lane is made up from 2 key elements,

The first is organic, about nature a cascading green oasis, nature and the natural movement it creates.

The second, in contrast to this is an industrial element, the context of the site, its original materiality, its own history and personal story. Bold and industrial elements, geometric shapes and a modern twist on stained glass.

These elements ultimately create a negotiation, a reclamation of the city by nature and people, a story of their own. By combining these elements instead of picking one over the other this urban oasis creates a more viable place in which to live.
Wellington street is used as an introduction to the laneway targeting local users, visitors and public transport users. Implementing way finding at the entrance of wellington street and supporting bike activation, views to the rooftop naturally enticing people into the laneway.
The central location of the laneway is dedicated to pop up retail spaces. This area is designed to showcase the best and most exciting independent start- ups and businesses where they can share space, skills and ideas. Gasworks will house the next generation of local retail outlets, workspaces for local business and artists.
The pop up spaces will be located within shipping containers. utilising the shipping containers create not only a sustainable option but also for the businesses to run on a low rent cost.
The shipping containers are created to become modular.Having this adjustable configuration allows the laneway to cater for multiple businesses and layout needs.
The shipping containers used within the retail fit out help to create consistent branding throughout the laneway but also enable designers and companies to have a blank canvas to showcase their work in a collaboration with Gasworks lane.

Gasworks lane is an urban village, a place for people to connect with their community, with local businesses and creatives. An oasis, a lush space that invigotates and sooths. The interaction between the industrial and organic combining to create a highly liveable city for a changing and evolving population.
