This poster, designed to encourage a love of reading, is best viewed on a large scale. The viewer should enjoy exploring the intricate layered worlds of the image, hopefully finding new details every time.
I wanted the black and white cityscape to be intricate and detailed, but at the same time to have an urban graffiti-like feel. I first drew all the elements of the city by hand, then used Illustrator to create a multitude of vector stencils for each building, window, door, tree etc, which I then filled in Photoshop with layers of spray paint in different shades of black, white and grey.
The colourful worlds of the stories themselves were made from layers of laser-cut paper - created as vector paths in Illustrator before being exported to DXF format to cut. I then built these coloured paper layers into mini sets/dioramas, and photographed them, before importing them into Photoshop to edit.
All the many different elements were brought together and assembled in Photoshop to create the final image.
This was a self-initiated personal project.
