Fortunately electric cars are getting more and more popular. Some cities even take actions to ban cars from their streets that use fossil energy. These tendencies naturally change the process of “refueling” the cars. Instead of gas stations in the near future we will see more and more electric chargers on the streets.
To fulfill this demands Maform designed a family of outdoor chargers. These DC chargers were the second round of this process. These models has universal sockets and can be used with any cars. Compared to the AC chargers, the DC chargers are super fast. In only 20 minutes they can charge the batteries of a car up to 80%.
As the act of charging a car is a brand new user experience we had to design an interface that is easy to understand and to follow. Electric car chargers don't have any stereotypical shapes yet, so as a design challenge it was quite interesting for the team. They similar to the gas station pumps, but are slimmer, taller and lighter, requiring less material. They are vandal and weather proof. As they are quite new for the users, simplicity and clarity were the key aspects throughout the design process.
