Students were assigned a series of explorations to teach a deeper understanding of typography and typographic form. Robert Bringhurst's The Elements of Typographic Style was the course reading. A paper reviewing the book in addition to essays on Professor Belic's lectures were to form the content for a book on Typography. Each exploration accompanied a lecture and was to be included in the book as well.
The objective of the book is to combine the content of the course into a cohesive narrative and demonstrate typographic skill and understanding. The book opens with the review of The Elements of Typographic Style, followed by the lectures and explorations.
