Austria In Balance

The design inherits the concept of sustainability and aims to teach visitors to live sustainable modern lives in the 21st Century. While walking through the exhibition, the zones Society, Economy and Environment can be experienced trough interactive installations. Visitors learn about the aspects of sustainability and how they can live responsible lives by using modern systems. They are also invited to actively participate in the development of the exhibition. After having passed all the three zones, the middle of the pavilion is reached. Here the Key message of the pavilion is shown: Only if society, economy and environment are in balance, sustainable development can happen. On a balance platform visitors can try what it means if this is not the case. The goal of this installation is to bring the system into balance. People from all over the world would work for this goal collaboratively. This is why the project was named

IN BALANCE - INTERNATIONAL BALANCE ACHIEVED WITH TRANSCULTURAL COLLABORATION.

The building is entered and exited through the north. This provides visitors with shadow in the desert climate. They proceed walking upstairs, where the exhibition is located in a shaded space. After the exhibition, the pavilion is exited on the ground floor through a shop. Also on this level, the areas for the VIPs, the staff, and the technical equipment are positioned.
The building aims to be a HABITAT FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT by inspiring people to live sustainable lifestyles in the 21st century. We want to show that this is possible without lowering people’s standards of living. Using natural materials such as timber is our anser to this.

As the Expo 2020 is said to turn into a global research platform, it is foreseen
that the pavilion should remain on place after the Expo’s end and be turned into a
RESEARCH FACILITY FOR TIMBER CONSTRUCTION IN DESERT CLIMATES.
