Biodegradable Plant Pot

This was a small project for a module at university. The brief was to design a biomimetic product, this means we had to design a product which had a function inspired by nature.

I decided to focus on eggs. The most obvious function of an egg is to protect it's contents, but I decided to look a little bit deeper. There is a membrane which holds the shell together. From this I thought about a product I could design using this feature.

I was In the garden and noticed a few plastic plant pots kicking around, this got me thinking. I decided to design a plant pot which could be buried with the plant to eliminate the plastic pots. The membrane came into the design by holding the soil in place whilst holes are created on the outside of the pot for the roots to grow through whilst the pot is degrading.
