NGI — On solid ground

Itch, 2016
Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) is a leading international centre for research and consulting within the geosciences. NGI develops optimum solutions for society, and offers expertise on the behaviour of soil, rock and snow and their interaction with the natural and built environment.

Concept — From macro to micro

The Earth is like a patchwork of plots in infinite varieties, all with unique characteristics. To intervene, you must have and insight and knowledge about how things are connected to the earth, like a doctor. NGI works with earth surface and makes sure it stays safe and stable. In many ways they work a bit like Earth's human guards - they prevent unrest, monitors earth and intervenes when there is unrest on the soil surface.
By gaining insight into a problem one must first find the causes and consequences of major incidents. NGI can see Earth's quilt from above, like a map from the sky. At this rate they can detect both challenges and problems in a larger context. To get a deeper insight into how it should be resolved, they go further into the area before they finally intervene and find a solution by going very close and dig into the problem. This concept is dragged further into imagery on the website. From space photography to extreme close by specific research projects
