This project began when I drew a dollar sign as a symbolic illustration on my sermon notes. I decided to take this tiny ink-on-paper design and digitize it as a vector image. I quickly realized that I wanted it to be more than just a dollar sign, so I added text and began elaborating on the dollar sign with concepts from 1 Timothy 6.
This passage has always been one of my favorites. It’s so straightforward and practical yet incredibly challenging. It calls my desires and motivations into question. It demands that I check my level of contentment and review the things that affect my attitude. Am I grateful for God’s provision of my basic needs, or am I greedy for far more than I need (or than is good for me)?
After various revisions and edits to my original drawing (and a little more playing with type), I arrived at a final design that abstracts the concept described in the 1 Timothy 6 passage. The statement “Greed destroys us” is my own paraphrase derived from the Bible verse.
