“Sophia”

This portrait artwork “Sophia” was painted in acrylics on an A2 sized wooden board. My inspiration came from the artist Chuck Close who painted portraits with grids. This painting was from a photograph I had taken of a friend, Sophia. My artwork involved experimenting with colour imitating the style and work of the artist Chuck Close. It took me quite a long time to complete, as it was very difficult to acquire the correct colours that were in the photograph.

When it was finally completed I received great praise from my art tutor who was highly impressed with the result of my art piece, This painting is now exhibited and hung up in our family home
“Yellow Hibiscus”

This creative art piece “Yellow Hibiscus” is a chalk pastel painting of the three stages of a Hibiscus - a live flower, a flower that is slowly dying and a flower that has wilted. These three stages were photographed and then overlapped using Photoshop.  The final photograph image was the inspiration behind this art piece which I used this for my Advanced Level examination. It took seven hours in total to complete
“The Tube Journey”

This is an acrylic painting done on an A4 wooden board. This was part of a project named “Travel” and my inspiration came about due to travelling by tube whilst residing in the United Kingdom. I photographed a pair of hands and superimposed the London tube map.
“Postcards”

This was an A2 Art & Design portfolio piece. Here I collected postcards of my country Malta and also photographs when I was a child. My inspiration came from my travels and family holidays with the concept of postcards.

The medium used is water colours on watercolour paper. These paintings were mounted on wooden boards and then remounted on a larger wooden board to create a collective art piece.
“Artichoke”

During my photography studies I photographed dried flowers and vegetables and this art piece is painted from one of the photographs taken.  It is a large chalk pastel painting of a dried artichoke done on cardboard.  It entailed great detail and therefore took me around six hours to complete. The deep colours used allow the artichoke to look realistic.

This art piece received great praise and was chosen to be hung in the headmaster’s office at Millfield School in Somerset, United Kingdom. This medium and technique is an enjoyable experience.
