Spreading awareness about Mumbai's abused Mithi river

Project- Awareness about abused Mithi river in Mumbai
Objective- To instill people with a sense of belonging and ownership towards Mithi. Equip them with information that enables them to have a say in the matter, if they could influence the fate of the river in any way in the future.

Proposed solution-A one page comic in a leading newspaper daily, like the small picture series by Manta Ray published every Wednesday in the newspaper Mint.
Why a comic? Transforming raw data into stories puts a human element into it and permits information to be imprinted into memory. Story derived from facts and statistics provides a context, focus and interest that draw in an audience. It makes complex data accessible and easier to understand, enables showing relationship between ideas and sometimes be more evocative and even more accurate than the facts.

Synopsis-The comic illustrates the state of the River Mithi in Mumbai. Besides the known fact that it is very polluted, encroachment has been a major reason for its deterioration. I wish to highlight two things: one, the development projects that has been sabotaging the river and two, the ignorance and indifference of an average Mumbaikar.

Project Guide: Dr. Tridha Gajjar, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
