Our proposal for the competition was to submit a bold and dramatic concept which would reinvent a row of beach huts specifically for disabled beach users. Within the design brief, a strict budget of £100k which included the Architect fees and the total construction cost meant that we had to be quite pragmatic in our approach.
Our concept was to take the idea of the beach 'boardwalk', which through tension, compression and time, nature has warped the structure to fluid 'wave' like forms. The undulating quality of the roof has formed the pair of beach huts, which were both distinct and bold in its colour palette.
We were delighted to be a shortlisted finalist for this design competition.
