Penguin Design Awards: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey
Book Cover Design for Penguin Books
The idea for this book cover was to think up a new, fresh perspective of the book and to move away from the old traditional imagery. My design came from the the battle that McMurphy has with authority and how he rebels against everything they believe in. They attempt to give him pills (that they call medicine) to keep him in order but he finds ways to not take them. This becomes his downfall in the end and they use trephination to stop him. The jigsaw shaped hole represents how they've taken a part of his puzzle and he'll never be the same again.
