Initial Wireframe Sketches for Feature Section
Figuring out the magazine name, trying a cool 'signature' look for the front cover. We ended up using a digital masthead for the front cover, but this sketching was the catalyst for the rest of our 'gold sharpie' inclusions and set up our colour scheme.
Our initial Styleguide, drawn up to help guide the five of us (as individual designers) toward a common overarching theme.
Pinterest Inspiration via Gemma O'brien (aka Mrs Eaves).
Original lettering drawn up for 'Arctic Monkeys' feature title.
Feature Title Lettering being hand drawn.
Finished lettering for feature title. Before digitisation.
Digital lettering. Cleaned up in Photoshop and image traced in Illustrator.
Our drafted front cover. This was where we pulled together our textures, colours, sharpie elements and monochrome photography for the first time. This was the first page we created - and it was created by us as a group. We used this page as an examplar for the rest of our documents to emulate.
Initial page mock-ups loosely using the style guide for my 8-page feature on the Arctic Monkeys.
The first page of our FINAL styleguide with up-to-date colours and exact fonts. (This was the only page we changed.) It took some experimentation with our initial guide to iron out the smaller issues we had with the first guide. By simplifyng our colour scheme, we found we came up with a much more unified set of designs.
Page mock-ups after more tweaking, utilising font choices and colour scheme. Sharpie elements were also included in these. You can see the natural progression from my inital page mock-ups above. The moving around of elements to maximise the use of space (and negative space - this is a minimalist design), the changing of fonts and sizing to proportion the pages and swapping out imagery for more dynamic photographs that better suited the overall style of the magazine.
