ISTD - "It Happened On This Day"
This piece of work was in response to an open brief based around a day in history. I decided on July, 7th 2005 pretty early on as it is a day in history that I feel changed a lot of peoples perceptions of the country we live in. To me, this is a very important event because, being British I want to be proud of my home country.

After thorough research into the events that took place that day, I realised there was such controversy over what actually happened. A short film on YouTube called “The Ripple Effect” very quickly changed the way I viewed the events of 7/7 and made me think twice about what had actually happened that day. From this point onwards I decided that I wanted to create a piece, most likely a book, that would engage the reader on more than one level and question their understanding of what happened on thursday 7th July 2005.

Through research, idea generating and experiments I decided that the most effective way to execute this concept would be with a dual opening book, one side containing the Government official account of events and the other revealing the points of the conspiracy theories. That way the content of the book would remain impartial and therefore not suggest that either narrative may be more accurate than the other. This format also allows the reader to understand both sides of the story and therefore make their own, personal decisions regarding the events of the 7/7 bombings.
