Celebration of the life of Adrian Frutiger

International society of typographic designers live brief: "Celebrate the career of Adrian Frutiger"

Brief: The brief was to celebrate the lifes work of Adrian Frutiger who sadly passed away in 2015, this could be done by any form necesarry to clearly communicate the 'celebration' of his lifes career in graphic design and the work which he produced specifically in the typographic genre.

Answer: My interpretation of the brief was to construct a magazine celebrating his career by depicting his most famous four fonts - Univers, Avenir, Frutiger and Serifa. I have designed the magazine / book and based on Frutigers most famous piece of work 'The Univers grid' which was the first font to have a so called font family. Univers bold, italic, condensed etc.

My whole book is based around the grid, with it being split into 4 sections just like the Univers grid is in terms of 'extended, regular, condensed and ultra condense'. This has allowed me to split my four celebrated fonts into these sections and also within the magazine, by making pages either 'extended' or ultra condensed to fit the theme of the celebration.

As well as the main magazine which has been printed via Riso graph print, the packaging has been hand screen printed as well as another miniature guide to 'creating your own typeface'.

This is my celebration of Adrian Frutiger!
