Concept Masterplan for large-scale healthcare complex, Huzhou, 2015.
The Taihu Hospital is a bold and refined vision of medical care campuses of the future. Our proposal is based on an overriding desire to create a new ’Community Heart’ within the Taihu Lake International Health Care Town that reaches out to the existing surroundings and the planned community.
Xinyuan Taihu International Health Town General Hospital will be a modern grade 3 general hospital that combines medical, education, S&T, health protection, rehabilitation and wellness. This private general hospital targets to build Health service that covers Huzhou City and its surroundings, and Health management service that covers triangle area in China. The general hospital’s concept of operation can be resumed in one sentence: One-Stop service model. It envisages achieving safety, convenience, effectiveness, economy, comfort and beauty.
We have tried to strike a balance between Flexibility and Function, while creating spaces and opportunities that connect patient, families and staff to each other, to nature, and to the community. The placement of different blocks form a large set that connects perfectly connects with the context through its forms. The general solution of the whole reminds us of the silkworm cocoons, of the larvae in their work, the strength of the fibers, the softness of silk.
Buildings are formed by organic shapes with rounded corners and with different heights due to its operational needs and program. The main feature is given by the towers second-skins, inspired by images from the cocoons of the silkworm being transformed into yarn.
