Retail: User Experience - Digital Touchscreens

Best Buy UX Digital Touchscreens
Digital Blue Shirt and Pre-Order Kiosk
OVERVIEW: In order to help in-store customers compare and narrow down the many product choices available, a touchscreen interface was developed. This initial test was called the Digital Blue Shirt (a play on the common name for in-store staffing).  The touchscreen was not designed to replace any in-store personal but to augment the Blue Shirt and assist with sales. The second program was a further iteration of the touchscreen technology, providing a simple and easy way for customer to "pre-order" games.

CREATIVE OBJECTIVE: Engage and educate customers to use touchscreen tools.

SOLUTION: Working closely with two digital agencies, the creative solutions were designed to be on brand and visually compelling. The Digital Blue Shirt used an "attract loop" to catch customers attention and also educate them on the services. Customers only needed to touch the screen to begin. Once engaged, the customer was asked no more then 3-5 questions to provide a small subset of products to compare. For the Gaming Pre-Order kiosk, no track loop was used but instead, gaming trailers rotated within the interface. A simple call to action directed the customer to engage. Customers then could select their gaming platform, see upcoming games or Best Buy exclusive down-loads and then pre-order. In addition, the kiosk was flanked by a "coming soon" sign which listed upcoming titles (see "Retail: Gaming" for more details on the creative).
