My body of artwork entitled, “Opposites Attract,” includes the use of typography, basic shapes and color to create posters. Each poster is built around a five-letter word thathas a design displaying the opposite of what the word actually means. The posters all embody different styles that are unified using basic shapes andcolors consistently throughout them all.
The posters created all contain the definition of the word that the poster revolves around. The different design elements contradict the words meaning on purpose. Being rebellious in my artwork has always been really intriguing. Each day there are rules that we have to follow, and I liked using this body of artwork as a way to break the rules. Even with graphic design, the client must always be heard to assure they get what they want. These pieces really allow graphic design to be shown in more of a creative light as oppose to please a client and following strict design principals.
The name of the exhibit,“Opposites Attract,” derives from the main subject matter. Even though I do break the rules in certain areas, the definitions, words, shapes, colors etc. work together to make a unified design. That is my main goal with this exhibit, to be rebellious yet aesthetically pleasing to the viewers eye.
