Intersection- Social Media Campaign

Social Media Campaign
For this output, the focus was to utilize social media in order to target LGBT youth and individuals seeking resources as well as, fostering a positive discourse for a target audience that can seek information in a more direct, accessible format. The subject matter ranges from addressing microaggressions to how to find shelter as a homeless LGBT youth.
Facebook
With over 1 billion active users, Facebook seemed like a natural choice for a social media output. The format allowed for cross-pollination of content that carries over my three other channels, but also proves to be a solid medium which features SEO statistics, event coordination, and access to the digital work from the zine.
Twitter
As a medium that has grown in recent years for social activism and change in 140 characters or less, Twitter was a solid choice for publishing content as the limitations allow for a truly defined post format. The choice to re-post content more was based on the discourse of the website, where original content was interspersed with re-tweets attributed to LGBT activists such as Janet Mock, Deray McKesson, and actress Laverne Cox.
Instagram
With Instagram’s still and motion picture based format, Instagram has allowed for self-conception in a way that feels individualized and personal but has transcended into a powerful tool for marketing and connecting to an audience of varied age ranges. The content created for this was very specific due to the restrictions, I chose to focus on more photographic work with minor typographic treatments to supplement the imagery. The significance of this medium allowed for me to both create specialized content as well as, connect to a broader spectrum.
Tumblr
Tumblr has grown rapidly in the past several years, fostering a community of LGBT discourse that has become the established vernacular in queer issues. While the user base is typically stigmatized as adolescents and young adults, this would prove to be advantageous as this is typically the age at which gender and sexuality issues are discussed in the home. LGBTQIA youth have access to ask questions, submit stories that would be featured in future editions of my zine, and read the articles in an easily accessible format. The open source HTML also provided the opportunity to modify the theme to fit more in line with my branding identity.
