Mutability, on Film

A few weeks ago I shot the beautiful Sarah, at Aspire Studios. Working with one of my favourite mediums 35mm film and having my first experience with Fuji Superia 400, was exciting.

Sarah is a local mum to daughter Luna, while also a local creative, singer, and dancer. A beautiful free spirit at heart, she was excited about my at times avant-garde ideas/themes.
I love working with film, as there’s a distinct character each film has dependent on your film choice. Fuji Superia has a slight green luminance to it, but the skin tone stays intact. I also love the authecinticy of film, in the way it processes light and colour, offering a more realistic view than say with a digital camera.
Mutability of rose...
The theme I was attempted was Mutability, Impermanence, and The brevity of life. The hourglass suggests time in its irreversible aspect, an endless  slipping away with no finality in sight and whose finalities no one has the power to annul. The flowers while alive in the moment captured on film, are now dead. The feathers that adorn her head, come from a bird long yet gone.
Again, the feathers that adorn her fragile body are provided by the deceased. Photography is said to allow the artist to explore the 4th dimension of time, an instant perception of the seamless continuity of time. The woman I photographed many weeks ago, has since changed and developed, the moment captured is already gone.
