Service Desk Pamphlet

Informational pamphlet I did in my Desktop Publishing class for a service desk on the North Carolina State University campus.
My client forthis project is the staff at the Tri-Tower 24-Hour Service Desk on centralcampus. They had decided that they wouldlike an informational pamphlet on the services that the desk offers toresidents so that they could give it to students in the fall semester. The service desk is where students will go topick up spare keys, and it is where the packages and mail is sent to bedispersed. This document will be veryuseful to both students and their parents, especially being new to theUniversity and campus. Usually at thebeginning of the school year, we get lots of questions about everythingpossible. Hopefully this document willbe able to filter out some of the basic questions and make the transitioneasier for new students and their parents.

This documenthad an incredible amount of information that it required. I tried to make the front and back panelslook simple, but the entire inside, including the inside flap, is full ofinformation. This was unavoidable.

The front cover says “Tri-Tower 24-Hour Desk”with a simple picture of Metcalf Hall (where the desk is located) and thedesk’s number and email.

The inside flaphas information on how to stay updated if there is an emergency, for example,it provides a link to visit to sign up for emergency text messages.

The first panel of the insideof the document (the second page) had just information about keys; checkingkeys out, what happens if you have a bent key, and the costs and proceduresafter losing your keys.

The next twopanels are shared by two horizontal sections. The top section is about mail and packages, and the bottom section isabout maintenance. I put these threemain categories (keys, mail/packages, maintenance) on the inside with the mostabundant information because it is all information that the desk staff has todeal with the most. Familiarity of thesesubjects with the residents is very important, so I tried to make the subjectslook more simplified by adding a black border around the sections and includinga small picture in each section.

Theback panel is simple with no border and includes several important numbers andwebsites. I also included a QR-code onthe back panel. Students and parentswith Smartphones can scan this barcode into their phone and it will pull up awebpage. This webpage is a page I madeusing “weebly.com” and it provides more in-depth information about the topicscovered in the pamphlet. This will also be handy to students because they willbe able to easily click on links and numbers through their phone from thewebsite.
