Dissenting Object - The Fortune Teller

This was a project based on the idea of "dissent". We chose to create a supersized (1mx1m) fortune teller, with the idea of creating conversation by addressing topics that question people's beliefs. We chose to directly address the user by using the words "you believe" which (when tested) made people immediately agree or disagree with the statement. To test the object and the statements, we took a mock up onto the streets of Bristol to gage what reactions we would recieve. The test run showed us that the topics chosen were able to create conversation that made people choose a stance on particular beliefs. For the design of the final piece, we looked into the V&A's exhibition "Disobedient Objects" and were particularly inspired by the How-To Guides.
