Starcraft Level Design

Though I appreciate maps with naturalistic shapes, I wanted one where your home base was equal, regardless of your spawn point, something every official map lacked. Everything from building space to amount of resources to the size and placement of the choke points to the distance between entrance to every other was carefully thought out. What this map lacked in visual interest was more than made up for in basic fairness and the fact that it accommodated different play styles. As a result, there were a million variations made of this map, and it was one of the most popular (or at least most played) of the 8-player maps on Battlenet.
