Katie Dolan's profile

C21 - Ministry of Sound (Work Placement)

The aim of this brief was to produce multiple print advertisements for Ministry of Sound, to promote the club as the go-to place for young people (particularly males), with emphasis on the quality of the experience, particularly the music.  My idea centred on the stereotypical people that tag along during a night out, who you would rather not attend.  Therefore, the people this campaign focused on were: the embarrassing uncle who always drinks too much and ends up acting like a complete fool, the annoying cousin that you don’t particularly like but have to take with you because you’ve been ordered to by your parents, the argumentative friend who always manages to get into a fight over the pettiest things, the irritating sister that tries everything in her power to wind you up and embarrass you and the moody girlfriend who manages to make you feel guilty for even breathing the same air as another woman.  The caption ‘hear nothing but the music’ in accordance to ‘the world’s best sound system, loud is the new quiet’ is meant to reflect that the music at the Ministry of Sound club is so amazing that it can drown out the sound of all those embarrassing people that are on the night out with you.  The louder the music, the quieter the irritating individuals become.
Katie came to us on the C21 Vicious Circle programme.  This is a week long programme that covers all aspects of the reality of working within a creative agency.  Students follow a mini project through from start to end: from research; to writing a brief; to creating artwork and finally production.  Each day focuses on a training session in the morning with work on the mini project each afternoon.  The training sessions are conducted through a mixture of presentations, videos, discussions, and activities.  Katie showed great teamwork and initiative during her week at C21, as well as an excellent attitude to work, time keeping and attendance.  Although quiet in manner Katie’s written communications skills are excellent as noted in one of her
testimonials below.

“Katie showed fantastic understanding of the briefs we gave her and high degree of creativity in the work she produced. We set all work experience students the same brief to see how differently people think, I think it is fair to say Katie’s work was on a par with the best we have seen. On a personal level she was a bright, friendly person who would be a popular addition to any studio." Neil Parsons – Art Director

“Katie’s cover letter when applying for work experience with us was one of the best letters we’ve ever had from a student.” Cath Hook – Office Manager
