Santorini and Athens
Pictures from June 2009
Santorini is part of the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea, south of mainland Greece. The island was formed as a result of a volcanic explosion and its terrain is often harsh and rocky. The following photos come from the few days I remembered my camera during my trip to Greece during June 2009.
Although a center of Classical Greek culture, periodic conquest has left modern-day Athens without many intact elements of its cultural heritage. Unlike the monument-filled Rome, Athens is today consumed by urban sprawl and the surviving elements of Greek Architecture are in fragile condition. These photos were taken in June 2009 and capture the condition of some of the remaining architectural elements.
