Lacrimae Liberta
LACRIMAE LIBERTA
The "Lacrimae Liberta" is a work that seeks to honor the renowned Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos. The piece is inspired by the work "The Bride" but differs in the materials used and the interpretation of it. The piece created by me is interpreted as a tear, keeping the shape of a chandelier and both interpretations are possible, it is made of thirty thousand clips being suspended over more than a hundred glasses of water that have two interpretations: firstly it means the cry of a person throughout his life, and secondly, is the cry of a crowd/of several people, the principal tear is to go over the idea that we are all equal regardless of gender, race, religious beliefs, etc., because everyone cries the same tears (one drop of water, transparent, etc.), that's the main message. This work also includes (in theory) a second work of this artist, the "Independent Heart". This incorporation can be understood through the name of the work ("Lacrimae Liberta" - "Independent Tear") and through the fados that can be heard when you visit the piece.
The atmosphere around the piece is intended to fit it in a more neutral space for its colors, and cold in it's interpretation. The space is compared to a cave, which leads also to represent the four elements in place (through the surrounding land, water glasses, fire on a candle, lamp air/tear down).
