I usually wake up upon hearing a sound such as when Gig was munching on raw green bean
But this time I saw her hand emerged from under her other arm
Which reminded me of the time when my girlfriend was possessed by Kinnari*. She cried like a chick
And after when she pretended to flap her wings for a while she munched on the offering beans placed upon the
altar
My girlfriend hadn’t been in this room for two years, but there was an altar there as a reminder of her and
needed to be cleaned
At the beginning of this year there were birds starting to make their nest at the balcony
They kept coming. Even if photographs were taken, it was still not possible to differentiate between them
Mid-year an old friend came to visit. The friend has bird tattoo, like butterfly like my girlfriend’s
But they both like to worship the same god
We talked about bird until it was the time when birds started chirping (which made me think of the time I did
my thesis)
Woke up in a hurry at six to gave alms to monk, not even wearing bras
It appeared as if the Kinnari has some special ability to draw in something
When the munching sound disappeared, Gig woke up, laid on her stomach and moved her legs back and forth
like butterfly flapping its wings
And pointed her thumb at the picture at the end of the bed, asked if it was a picture of a hand
Of course it was a picture of a hand
*A mythical half-bird half-woman being in Buddhist and Hindu Mythology
from the observation of the birds that nest in the balcony, Soopakorn Srisakul has seen a pictures of the birds repeatedly.
"I got hypnotized by the birds" ,said the artist, he also explained the beginning concept of the photo series "camera is a tool" derived from the images. Nowadays the images have become a part of his daily life. Every time when he saw a bird, it remands him of his friend who has the bird tattoo. This obsession also brings the image of Kinaree to his mind, which was small sculpture that his lover left in his room. The fact comes and goes in the memory, while in balcony birds have built a nest irrelevantly as the way nature work, the image was coming in an unlikely form, getting caught in the memory that he himself nurses. the photo in this series is the interpret ion of some representation, combine the idea together. For Soopakorn as an photography artist, camera is just a tool which brings in the visualisation and connects with his memory.
