Starting a letter is alwaysthe hardest part, so my idea was to provide the letter writer with somebeginnings. To start with I experimented with using beginnings of letters, butthat felt confusing. So I explored salutations in letters. I spent some timeresearching salutations from historical letters and came up with six that wereused most often. I wanted the stamps to inspire and delight. I explored usingspring colours as the stamps will be submitted in the spring. I also wanted toentertain with the stamps, so I used the language of the theatre in the fonts Iselected. The idea is when a letter arrives with one of my stamps on the front,it will say ‘Ta-Dah! Here’s your letter from me. I believe my designs willengage people and inspire them to put pen to paper.
