Lost - wearable technology costume (2015)

Lost is a wearable technology costume, aesthetically exploring the theme of mysticism and stress.

The garment resembles a deer’s looking and enchanted creature. A piece of mess plastic paper is covered on the all head and wings of the headpiece. On the left side of the headpiece, there is a dry tree branch resembles a deer’s antler with a bird and feather on it. On the right side of the headpiece, there is a double side mask with a windmill on the top. Behind the headpiece, there are two wings. The body part is an all black wizard’s long gown and directly connects with the headpiece. There are eight gold bells surround the long gown with the rope.

Lost is intentionally restrictive, heavy, and cumbersome to wear. The metal headpiece with the tree branch and double face mask resembles the stress of life. Combine the headpiece and the all black wizard’s long gown resemble the mysticism. Imagine a single deer lost in the forest with a lot of hunters behind.

Lost is wearable technology costume design with LED lights up and fading function. An Arduino Lily Pad communicates with fourteen LED lights that spread on the tree branch and wings. There is a switch button to hide in the costume. When the switch is turning on, all the LED lights will be lights up with fading in effect. Then, all the lights will be keeping bright around a few seconds. After that, the lights will be all fading out. The effect will be looped. There is a windmill on the top of a double mask. When the costume is moving with the wind, the mask will be rotating. A bunch of bells are surround the body part, when it moves. It will be got bell’s sound around.

The garment is made mostly of reused materials found at junk shops or the natural thing. A bunch of wires are manufactured the whole structure of the headpiece. Three paper boxes as the support are hiding in the headpiece. The deer’s antler (tree branch) is reached on the mountain. The double side mask and windmill are all made by junk paper. The wizard’s long gown is made by an old bed sheet. A series of LED lights are powered by an Arduino Lily Pad, circuit, 9V batteries, which are housed in small pouches dangling behind. A small switch is hiding in the gown and easy to touch.

The effect of this costume will be expected to be very mysterious. Following the concept that people are always lived on the way to find themselves, the costume should be no looks formal or symmetrical. However, it looks more abstract and art.
