Kinstrument is an interactive installation that unites dance, music and colors. It is a visual and sonor experience where the body becomes the creator tool.

This project was conceived as an experimental process, with the intention of leaving the comfort zone as a graphic designer and explore new tools of expression. I used Processing for coding the graphics and the sound (with the help of two computer engineers) and Microsoft Kinect as the movement sensor.

How it works
The movement is the basis of the project and the link between the different areas. When the user moves in front of the sensor, it produces a sound and generates an image in real time. The sounds of a piano octave is related to the colors based on its frequencies and also to the position of the right hand. The left hand controls the volume, while the position of the body in the space allows the user to create audio loops depending on the zone he or she is.

Due to the importance of the movement in this project, the graphics are intended to enhance the traces left by the movement.
Improvisation and the idea of an ephemeral work are the essence of this project. The performance is the work itself and the simultaneity and synchronization between the different elements make each piece unique.
