Film photography inspired by 'The Little Mermaid'

‘Ludlites Love Film’ was the 11th show from film based plastic camera group, the Ludlites. This exhibition was part of the Head On Photo Festival and featured ‘Plastic Camera Images inspired by Cinema, Celluloid and the Silver Screen’ held at the Bondi Pavilion Gallery.

My contribution to the group show drew inspiration from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The most vivid moments for me have always been the opening sequence which draws you deeper and deeper into the ocean to King Triton’s underwater kingdom, and when Ariel’s secret treasure trove of objects recovered from shipwrecks is first introduced. To recreate the distinctive underwater setting: the vibrant colours, the water sparkling with reflected light and occasionally sinister and murky ocean depths, I have used both cross-processed film for green-dominated colours as well as Lomography LomoChrome Purple film for surreal pops of purple colour.
