Panelab_
The aim of this project is to redevelop the neighbourhood of San Siro (Milan) by designing a dynamic, sociable meeting place, to encourage the residents to actively participate to the life of the borough in order to avoid radical ideological barriers.
Panelab is the name of this parasite architecture. Collocated on the roof of the abandoned gatehouse of Via Abbiati n°4, the parasite architecture hosts a monitored workshop of collective bread making. The project offers San Siro's residents the opportunity to re-discover ancient traditions and find friends among the local people. The name Panelab comes from the words bread and laboratory. Why the bread? Because it is the symbol of universal simplicity and cultural unity. This is a place to get together and share the everyday life in order eradicate existing issues such as criminality and the loss of a genuine local identity.
