I created this piece with an idea of working with metal and another material as well. I wanted the core of the piece to be a different material. As I worked on the piece it evolved from initial ideas of tree branches to more of a spine or worm-like image.
I started by cutting up a rusted pipe into various sizes and arranged to pieces based on where I wanted the pipe to be able to bend.
I then attached a quarter-inch metal spine to the pieces to create a bendable piece.
I then shrink wrapped the tubes to create space without any leaks. I cast Polytech rubber in this space to create a different core for the piece.
I ultimately attached the two pieces to a metal base to create an illusion of the tube going in and coming out of the ground.
