A Design Manifesto - First Things First: Think Bigger

A school assignment on publication – First Things First, a design manifesto that was first published in 1964 and followed by the other two editions in 2000 and 2014. We were tasked to create a duotone publication of this manifesto for designers.
The concept for my manifesto is to have a modern look, thus the use of a unique deep purple together with mint green. When these two colours are put together, it gives off a futuristic kind of feel that helps me communicate my message of “First Things First: Think Bigger” for this manifesto. It is also laid out solely using typography and lines to create interesting layout and patterns.

The flap on the cover page interacts with the reader to have a behavioral response to flip open to see the “bigger picture” of the actual cover page. This highlights my point of reminding designers to look at the bigger picture and not just look at the surface.

The pagination is done in a way that each page and line attached is connected to the cover’s 4 lines. The 4 lines actually indicate more and more people signing their names to support this manifesto – from 1964 with only 22 to 2000 with 33.

This publication is handsewn to have a personal touch.
