Illustration Brief: Flavours of Food and Fire. We invite you to present your interpretation of this illustration brief. Food and fire share a long history, but to make an interesting meal you also need just the right ingredients to come together. What images ignites in your brain when thinking of street food? Where does the fire fit? We want your take on this ancient relationship between fire, food and flavours depicted in a modern South African context. These illustration will be used on the Lion Match Boxes.

For my illustration I focused on key flavours and ingredients that remind me of Durban. I designed a patterns that included the iconic samoosa's, Wors, and fish among other things. Because the match box is yellow I decided to use colours that would accentuate the particular yellow that Lion Matches use.I also incorporated my own hand written typogarphy and texture to give the illustration a natural and layered feel. Altogether this illustration celebreates Durban unique flavours and its love for foods cooked with the use of fire.
