Sarpa : Nature & Form in Ceramics

Boa Constrictor projects a distinctive behavior and has a skeletal frame that differs from the other constrictors. The motion of this reptile ,its majestic and graceful way of mounting itself onto a tree while resting and hunting inspires me to see through underlying elements that make a form.
Hollow stoneware clay body, dipped in rich and rustic copper glaze along with the wax resist technique that has created the beige patches on the body to bring out realistic qualities on to this handmade reptilian wonder.
Wax resisted forest green glazing. The intricate yet chaotic pattern brings out the brilliant textural quality of serpents.
The style that a snake's motion and body projects possibilities to come with an infinite expanse of tactile forms. The linearity, ironically helps one play with very interestingly fluid forms.
Attributes of the creature and its form : Fluidity, grace, agility, movement, ease, patterns & texture, colors and more.
Dramatically stylized form, without loosing the essence. The rustic and crude quality of terracotta is something which I like here.
Some explorations through which I tried to create not every ''snake like' forms in terms of the way it sleeps. The intention was see how will a snake look if it sleeps like say a dog or cat.
Basic understanding about a snake's anatomy was required in the first place.
Textures, skin quality and physical form.

Patterns created keeping in the movement of the constrictor. The interest of it lies in the swiftly created curves which supports the visual volume of the snake.
Forms developed based on the shape that the constrictor's body takes while consuming its prey.
Birth of a boa constrictor ; feeding on prey ; the suspended form of a constrictor from a tree can be seen here.
Textures tried out using paints.
