D&AD Little White Lies

This is my contribution to the 2012 D&AD competition. I chose the Little White Lies brief, which was to design a cover for their magazine. The cover had to include a portrait of the main character from either Black Swan, Drive, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Super 8 or The Tree of Life. I chose the Drive movie because of the feeling and emotion in the film.
My idea was to do something with car lights, since Ryan Gosling was a driver in the movie. So after some sketching I figured out that I wanted to lacercut the portrait, and then I took pictures of the lacercutted image in a dark room. I had a little lamp in the background of the portrait so the lights could shine through the holes, like car lights. For the movie title I used a flash light and wrote Drive at the same time as I had a slow shutter speed on my camera in a dark room.
