This graphic I created using Adobe Illustrator for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course. For this project I had to recreate the above image based on an image I was given. This was the first design I created, freehand so to say, in Adobe Illustrator; I was very proud of myself and my final recreation.
This graphic I created using Adobe Illustrator for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course. For this projec I had to recreate the above design based off and image I was given. Once created I needed to give it a name, Jack-O-Stein.
This graphic I created using Adobe Illustrator for my Graphics and Layout in Printe Media course. This was one of the more difficult desings I had to create during this course. For this project I had to recreate the above image based off of an image I was given. Once recreated I had to add the text 'refreshment', but make it unique. For my text I wanted to get the feel of squeezing the limes, which is what most do what using limes, which is how I came up with the curve of the word 'fresh' making it look like it is being squeezed by the text 're' and 'ment'.
These sketches were created for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course. For these sketches I had to created designs for a certain cause. The cause that I decided to go with was Breast Cancer because it is close to my heart becase my grandmother died of it. The next step was to find an organization for that particular cause, the organization I went with was Susan G. Koman because it is close to where I live. Once I had my cause and my organization I started designing my posters and these are what I came up with. The third design is the one that I went with and you can see the final product of it under my posters / flyers project folder.
This poster was created for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course. For this project I had to choose a cause, find an organization for that cause and create a poster for that organization. I went with breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen organization; my grandmother died of breast cancer which is why I picked breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen organization is an organization from the state I live in which is why I picked it.
This package design was created for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course. For this project I had to come up with a soda brand for any type of soda of my choosing along with a back story. I came up with the soda brand of Bedrock RootBeer created by a man named Bear Billard. Once the background information was created I had to design, print and package the brand that I came up with.
These sketches I drew for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course; I drew them using a black crayola marker. For these sketches I had to find an object around my house, draw that object 9 different times and them give them each a different design.
These sketches I drew when I was trying to figure out what I wanted my photography buisness logo to look like.
This project was created for my Graphics and Layout in Print Media course. For this porject I had to create logos for a company I created on my own. Since at the time I was mainly focused on become a photographer I created a logo for a company I called Bodwell Photography. These were my three final logos; in the end I went with the last one.
The above image was created for my Graphics and Layout in Printe Media course. On top of creating a logo for the company I created, I also needed to create a letter head and business card. As you can see I went with a basic layout for my letter head, using my logo and basic solid black lines to separate the information at the top and bottom of the page. For my business card I used one of my own photographs as a background, gave it a yellow tint to represent my favorite color and add an extra personal touch, then faded both the photograph and color. Once that was created I added my logo, company name and the imformation.
This project was created for my Desktop Publishing course and was created in Adobe InDesign. For this project I had to create a music magazine cover that was directed towards a certain music age group; the age group I went for was children ages 9-13.
This project was created for my Desktop Publishing course and was created using Adobe InDesign. For this project I had to create a book cover, front and back. It had to be a children's book about something that the child would grow up knowing about their whole life.
I created this poster for my Desktop Publishing course in Adobe InDesign. For this project I had to create a poster / invitation to a child's birthday party. I had to make it known that it was for a birthday party, add date, time, address and of course put who's birthday it was and the age. This was the first project that I created in InDesign.
This logo was created for my Basic Design and Color Theory course. For this project I had to create a fashion line name and then create the logo for it. The name I went for was BOLD and above is the logo that I created for it.
This project was created for my Advanced Digital Imaging course. For this project I had to focus on a social awareness and create two different posters that could go up and create awareness of the problem.
The social awareness that happens all around the world that I picked to make posters on is bullying. Bullying is a very serious problem all around the world and it hit my personal social circle of education recently. In my hometown it became a very big problem last school year and it has rocked our community because the system doesn’t know yet how to address the issue. For this reason and for the reason I have seen it first hand as an educator back in my teaching days and in my actual personal life I decided to created posters on this awareness.
The first poster you see I wanted to come up with a slogan that is used all the time, but isn’t always remembered. After giving it thought I came up with how people always say that you should treat people the way you want to be treated so I came up with ‘treat the way you want to be treated. I knew that just this slogan wasn’t going to be enough for just this poster cause I wanted to have the word bullying in there somewhere. To get some ideas I searched the internet and I found the people that would wear those shirts that said what was wrong with them or basically writing out what other people may point out before they could do it. So after getting that idea I went in search for a photo that had a good amount of people on it and instead I discovered the photo in the first poster you see. It was perfect, exactly what I was looking for and I love the way the poster came out. I always added a black background with a outer glow dissolved layer of red to make the red in the photo pop more.
The second poster I wanted to be less involved, simple, but to the point. I started thinking up ideas of how to say stop, but use an image instead. I initially was thinking of using a stop sign or the no symbol used for no smoking. I really wanted to do something different though so I kept thinking and I thought about talk to the hand and then realized that stop is sometimes represented by holding your hand up. After that I decided having an off white almost grey background with a red hand, as red also represents stop, and then the word bullying to say stop bullying. This poster is simple and straight to the point. There is not a lot going on which makes it easier for the message to be read.
This project was created for my Advanced Digital Imaging course. For this project I had to find an event that was going on in my area at the time and create two projects to promote that event.
I picked an event that is local to where I live to design a poster for. The event I chose has to do with fall foliage which is very big where I live. The event is called Fall Foliage Cruises on Lake Winnipesaukee. This event is held for those who want to take a cruise on the Winnipesaukee on the MS Mount Washington cruise boat.
For my design I went more for the design of the fall foliage part of the event instead of the cruise because when people go on this cruise it is more so for the foliage and not the cruise. For these two posters I knew I wanted to use one image on both, an image that of the foliage during the fall. This image was taken on the top of Mount Major which over looks the Winnipesaukee lake. Once I had the image I wanted to use that image as the entire poster for one design, but then add flare to the other poster. As you can see the first poster is the one with just the image. I lessened the transparency of the image so that the logo that I came up with for the event would stand out more. I used white for the coloring of the text because fall makes way for winter and with winter comes snow which is white; so even though no one would probably understand that, for me that is the meaning behind the white text.
For the second poster I suck with the same white text and the same image. For this poster however I did not fade anything, it is all in bold color. I wanted to do something different for this poster, something that added an image to the logo I created. Once I started thinking about it I thought, what falls during the fall, leaves. After figuring that part out I knew I wanted to create the illusion of falling leaves falling onto the image.
For these posters I feel that I definitely nailed the fall foliage part of the poster and I added that different aspect to it with the falling leaves. After I completed the two posters, which I did not go back and fix because then I wouldn’t have my critique, I realized that putting the MS Mount Washington in at least one of these posters may have made a better understanding that this event is taking place on a cruise ship and not walking or zip lining through the foliage.
Although I feel I may have messed up on the message that this takes place on a cruise ship, I still feel that my poster definitely get across that you will be seeing and taking in the fall foliage that the Winnipesaukee lake has to offer.
This project was created for my Advanced Digital Imaging course. For this project I had to pick a designer (in my case I picked two) and create two posters inspired by their work on an event off of the site MoMA.
I actually had two ideas for a poster and it so happened that I based them off of two different designers, Paul Rand and Milton Glaser. I was drawn to their designs because they are understandable and different. For instance Paul Rand, if you read the title of the posters he created and then look at the poster you can easily understand what he did; he basically takes the title and just creates it in image form, amazing! When it comes to Milton Glaser his stuff is like Paul Rand’s, but then you get the work that is just out there and amazing as well.
I could only find one MoMA event that was upcoming and that is the Beyond the Cut-Out event. After reading up on my designer I have decided to do exactly what he did, base my design off of what the title is.
My first poster you will see I went with simple, black and white and to the point. I used the image of a pair of scissors because of the Cut-Out part of the event title. I thought that just one image to represent the event would make it easier for identification. I also went with the black and white look because MoMA is an elegant place when you walk in there you feel fancy and like you are in the presence of great work, which you are. This poster was based mainly off of Paul Rand.
My second poster you will see still has the scissors aspect, but only the blades part. They are opened to give the aspect of going into the beyond part of the event title; this part of the poster is based on Paul Rand. The design that is in the open part of the poster and very colorful and out there is the part that is beyond those scissors, beyond the cut-out. The design of it is meant to have the feel of out there, going beyond what you would normally do and just cut something out. The craziness of it and all the different shapes and colored lines and being all over the place is based on Milton Glaser and mainly his design for Mad Men. I love this design, it is different, crazy and colorfully fun.
Although I like my posters and my ideas behind them, I feel that they could use more work. This didn’t happen because I do need more work and teaching in Illustrator; I am rusty and haven’t had much practice. For instance I have trouble creating my own shapes without a step by step process to go by. Other than that I feel that my designs have a good thought behind them, but the work needs to be more worked on.
