Hotel Navis is a 5 star design hotel, situated in Opatija, Croatia. The hotel has 44 rooms and each of them has the most beautiful sea view - just as if you were on a ship, somewhere out in the open sea.
Speaking of ships, the word „Navis“ stands for „ship“ in latin , and since the owner of the hotel is Mr. Krunoslav Kapetanovic (Kapetanovic is a derivative of the word “captain” in Croatian) the direction of the branding and design was immediately set.
Once the geographical position of the hotel got included, the story became even more interesting. Preluk bay, where the hotel was built, is the northernmost spot where the Adriatic sea penetrates the Croatian coast – the key word being North.
The name and the location were the ones that defined the direction of this ship's supporting elements for the branding. Compass, coordinates and the GPS-like arrow did the rest of the job.
The coordinates are used to support the whole concept and to provide the numbering, signage, and orientational elements of the branding.

Every hallway on each floor is more than 50m long, with rooms positioned only on one side of the hall. Room numbering for the Navis hotel was imagined through the concept of coordinates. The idea was to present the floors of the hotel with the first number and the degree symbol (º) and the other two numbers to represent the actual room number on that floor.

The orientational arrows in the Navis signage system are also based on the concept of coordinates. The arrow shaped like this is the most common one for the GPS devices.
The idea for the room keychain was inspired by the location of the hotel. Since it is placed almost in the sea itself, there is a huge chance of someone dropping the key into the sea. If that should be the case, there is no need to panic. The key, thanks to this wooden keychain, will float.
Entering and exiting the Navis garage is always fun. When entering, the messages on the supporting beams are welcoming you in five different languages, appearing one by one as the entrance is leaning. When leaving the garage, the messages are positioned on the other side of the beams and they
are saying "goodbye".
