Clean Up is a game about a man called Eusebio. You will play the story of his life and try to help him succeed at his work while trying to keep his family from falling apart. Earn your salary cleaning buildings and then decide on what to spend it, since these decisions are those that will make his life a misery or an example of success.
Back in October 2014, the idea came out of an excercise to think about a game with a concept different from what we normally see in videogames. After doing a brainstorm and discarding ideas, we ended up with a game about a man who works as a janitor and how he degenerates until eventually reaching his final breakdown.
Early Character Concepts
We wanted the player to feel part of the main character and to suffer with him the hard choices he would have to take on his descent into misery. With this in mind, we decided to make a series of problems after each level and let the player choose between an expensive or a cheaper way to solve them. This lead us to the conclusion that there should be different narrative endings depending on the choices the player had made on their playthrough.

Given that our team was made out of three designers and none of us was good at drawing, we decided to go for a very simple pixel art style.
And so we started building the game on GameMaker: Studio

Level Concepts

The project ended after a few months with an Alpha version containing four levels, a decision system with resource managing and different narrative endings. Below is a fast video playthrough of the final version of the game, played with cheats and skipping cinematics to make it short.
Video Gameplay

A year later, on November 2015, the project was reopened.
