Fed-up of working on graphic design briefs that are purely visual in nature, I felt the need to create something that truly helps people. Calculating your Body Mass Index is a tedious process that relies on the knowledge of your height + weight; and a complex mathematical formula.
I created a life-sized table where the height, weight and BMI values are pre-fed. This simple solution allows users to interact with the table to find their BMI. The students were first provided with information about the benefits of maintaining a healthy weight, followed by how they can do so. Additionally, they were asked to mark their BMI on the table with designated colored pins. By doing this, they themselves created a visual mapping of the college’s BMI, which reflects upon the health of urban youth in India.
