In the wake of Typhoon Soudelor, which barreled through the Pacific Ocean and struck the U.S. island of Saipan, the American Red Cross is hard at work in the commonwealth helping individuals and families recover from the storm. The super typhoon made landfall Sunday, August 2, 2015, and brought 100-plus-mile-an-hour winds that damaged homes and public infrastructure throughout the island.

After the storm hit, the Red Cross mobilized on the ground to provide cots, generators, and other items to government-operated shelters housing hundreds of Saipan residents. Currently, the organization is partnering with corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations to ship and distribute relief supplies, including coolers, hygiene kits, and stoves.
